Les Costils” is a beautifully positioned cottage overlooking the spectacular River Orne, situated in the picturesque village of St. Philbert-sur-orne, right in the heart of Swiss Normandie.

View of River from the cottage Sheep!

Caen is only 50 minutes away, Falaise 7 miles and Pont-d-ouilly 3 miles. Swiss Normandie is the perfect place to make your base, if you wish to explore the Orne region, Caluados and Normandie itself. The D-Day beaches, Bayeaux Tapestries, Bagnoles and Mont-St. Michel are all within easy reach by car.

For sports lovers, nearby, you can find fishing (carp, trout, and perch), horse-riding, canoeing, golf, hand gliding and cycling. Walking routes are numerous and there is even a Velorail track, 7 kms of railway track, with picnic areas on route.

More about us: The accommodation we provide at present is 4 caravans, situated in our apple orchard. Though not the newest or most modern in style, all four are very bright and clean and have wonderful views of the River Orne. All caravans have awnings and their own patio furniture and BBQ. You have your own washing/toilet facilities and ample safe parking for your vehicles.

Sheets, towels, pillows, duvets, pots, pans crockery, glasses, cutlery and gas are all included. If you have any preferences, e.g., tea, coffee, etc. it’s a good idea to bring them from home, as English goods are quite expensive in France and not always easy to find.

We do have quite a lot of books and magazines available for you to read and a good selection of games and cards. For minor cuts and bruises, we have quite a comprehensive First Aid Kit available.

About 3 minutes drive from the house is a famous viewpoint “La Roche Detre” where there is a brand new tourist information centre. The Guides in the centre will be pleased to help you with bookings, maps and information.

View Pont d'ouilly

Five minutes away is a small shop selling everyday staples, such as bread, milk, cheese, etc. Pont d’ouilly is a 10 minute drive away, where you can find a supermarket, bars, riverside restaurants, riding centre and a hotel with a lovely restaurant for special occasions.

Our nearest town is Falaise, which has, not only a wider selection of restaurants, shops and hyper-markets, but also the beautiful Castle of William The Conqueror and the 1944 War Memorial Museum. This area was heavily involved in action, before and after the D-Day Landings, and many memorials and shrines can be found when entering the villages and hamlets on route.

We are in the process of renovating the cottage and there could be some rooms for bed and breakfast ready by next summer. Visit this website for further updates.
